A Journey that began from a March for Life

Gratitude fills my heart as I pen this down, thanking the good Lord for the gift of Kairos Global and the entire team, especially the editorial team. 

It was during one of the planning meetings of ASPAC 2020, which was hosted by the Eparchy of Irinjalakuda, India. I remember holding an issue of Kairos Global, the theme of the issue being ‘pro-life’. That was when I was just aware that the magazine existed, but I never got a chance to skim through it. Later, I kept a copy of the issue in my collection. Little did I know that someday, I would be part of the editorial team. 

Joining the team was a 'Father taking care of his daughter's little desire' moment for me. My journey with Kairos didn't start with being part of the team. Even before that, I had contributed a few articles. The maiden article was a report of India's first-ever March for Life in 2022. I remember the excitement of being part of it and a greater excitement to share the day's experience and create an awareness about the march amongst the readers. The article was a breakthrough in my writing aspirations. Since then, the Lord has led me to write on topics close to my heart. 

Writing for Kairos has felt different in different seasons of my life – single life, the waiting season, marriage, honeymoon, motherhood, writing while I was working and then as a stay-at-home mom. But one aspect remained constant – the 11th-hour work that pours in. Of all the seasons, writing after becoming a mother has given me an increased sense of responsibility and purpose. Also, each editorial team meeting felt different. Every topic we discuss is now scrutinised with the eyes of a mother. It adds more depth to each one discussed.

Looking back, I am amazed by how Abba brought me to the Kairos Global team. Congratulations to all of us, and may God bless us all.

Aleena Joy, wife of Kevin Jerome and mother of two (one on earth and one in heaven), lives in Bangalore, India. Along with the postgraduate degree in structural engineering and construction management, she holds a diploma in theology. She has also done a few certificate courses in theology. She worked as a BIM (civil) engineer until she had her first baby. A member of the Syro-Malabar theology forum and active in Catholic apologetics and pro-life circles, she works with her ABBA FATHER. She is a crafter who does embroidery, crochet and amigurumi. As a family, Kevin and Aleena are planning to homeschool their children.
