How can people have this kind of inverted or perverted values.

Green and environmental consciousness is the order of the day. All segments of people are much concerned about the need for protecting mother earth, and they do everything possible for that. But how can they fail to understand the preciousness of unborn child.

Animal lovers are also in plenty. There are various International organisations doing all things possible to ensure the well-being of animals. Even those who find the lives of animals precious, doesn't often think that human lives are to be considered as precious as animals. I have to sincerely admit that I don't understand these wrong priorities followed by many leaders of organisations and countries around the world, of over emphasising on the protection of environment and/or animals, and a failure in understanding the cruelty, inhumanness and immorality involved in the killing of innocent children before their birth.

Magazines and TV channels often report and broadcast programs about people saving a bird, feeding an animal, institutions providing safe location for animals etc and rightly so.  Due to the inclusion of environmental awareness in school curricula, today’s children are conscientized strongly and are concerned when even a single tree is cut. One of my colleagues was telling about his children who stopped eating fish after having an opportunity to see and play with live fish for some time.

But still, why does a large number of mothers kill their children who are in their womb? Definitely it cannot be just ignorance. Science and medical profession give funny names to pretend that it is not killing, but actually it is murder / assassination. Statistics on abortions around the world are staggering.

Recently I heard about a very traditional catholic grandmother in Kerala who was apparently so offended to hear the news of her daughter’s fifth pregnancy, that she did not even talk to her for several months. There can be various reasons at play here. One may be today's all too prevalent culture of self-interest – not the least bothered about others, even one’s own children, but concerned only about oneself. The other may be, as Pope Francis has said, that today's generation may not be rejecting God, but nobody is telling them about the loving presence of God and helping them to experience Him.

There is no doubt that an all-out effort is needed to make people aware that abortion is nothing less than brutal killing – murder and assassination of children. I am very well aware that taking a stand for life and against abortion is not the only aspect coming under the purview of being pro-life. Taking care of the elderly, physically and mentally challenged, extending care to the abused persons, donating organs, preserving the nature are all various dimensions of it.

Dear readers, please do everything possible to help people realise the preciousness of human life.
