Technology for sharing the Good news!

I grew up in a remote village in Kerala. I was in the seventh grade when we first got electricity. One of the luxuries at that time was a radio, and AIR (All India Radio) was the only available station. I still remember walking miles at night to my relative’s house to watch World Cup football, since they were the only ones who had a television set.

When I started getting involved in Jesus Youth, one of the first tasks entrusted to me was to write invitation messages on postcards, which costs 15 Paisa (15% of One Rupee).  The messages were written on one side and the address on the other side including the PIN number (Postal Index Number). Even after decades, several of these PIN numbers are still fresh in my memory. 

Then came the computers and the so-called technologies have practically transformed our lives. The emails, the SMSs and those new apps making its debut every dawn has the potential of sharing more information and connecting with more people.

There is no doubt that there are hundreds and thousands of positive uses of it.  Even Kairos Media with its various publications is making the best use of it. People in different locations (often in different continents) are working together very effectively, for the best results. One very good example is the social media survey, close to 1000 people participated, which is covered in the present edition, spearheaded by our ever-dynamic Executive Editor Mrs Sharrol Jose.  It was possible to gather data from people of such diverse backgrounds, from almost all continents, within a short span of time, making the best use of various social media platforms.  Of course, there are other numerous examples of the positive use of the social media.  On the flip side, there is also the rampant use of social media for negative purposes.

In such a context, the future of mankind depends heavily on the people with faith in God, values and principles. The most critical issue is forming people with the right perspectives, whose heart is filled with the love of God, which would naturally be spilling over to the neighbors. Let us hope and pray that we will be able to leave behind a better world than the one we inherited.
