The other day, while Sam was carrying his disabled brother on his shoulders to catechism class, his classmates asked him, “Why do you carry this burden always on your shoulders? Why couldn’t you tell your parents that you cannot carry him anymore?” Sam just smiled and told them, “Tom is a not a burden for me. He is my loving brother, and a gift from God to our family.”

That reply was an eye opener for many of his classmates. The physical disabilities of many of our brothers and sisters are a gift from our loving God, to bring the whole family closer towards Him. Our only duty is to love and take good care of them.

We are all so concerned about other’s physical disabilities. What about our own (spiritual) disabilities? Disabilities like jealousy, enmity, hatred, laziness, etc.?  Well, Sam has only one answer. We should believe that God created all of us, and He lives in us. So, next time we tease or make fun of others, we should remember that our words and/or actions are actually against Jesus. So I won’t do it again, will you?

God loves us so much that He is always with us in all situations of our lives. His love will protect us from all troubles, and He will help us in all things.

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
