Liz: Hey dude, we are gonna have a social media team for the church. Wanna help out?

Nick: Really? Sure, why not. But question, why tho?

Liz: Why have social media for the church? 

Nick: Yeah. Why is that important?

Liz: Well, the influence of social media is huge. Also, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “the communications media play a major role in information, cultural promotion and formation” (CCC 2493). 

Nick: Well yeah, nowadays, everyone has social media so of course it’s big.

Liz: That’s the thing, its so big that our culture is based of what we see on social media. Like if we see a popular star use something, everyone immediately goes and buys the same thing to use, right? 

Nick: Yeah I see that a lot. So, if the church has a social media, what good would it do?

Liz: Well, the church could help “form and promote ‘community’” says Pope Francis. We are called to promote the Catholic faith and this is another platform for us. He further adds that, we are called “to use online resources ‘to invest in relationships and to affirm the interpersonal nature of our humanity, including in and through the network’.” 

Nick: Yeah but how effective will it be with the youth? You know it’s really hard to run an individual account let alone an account for the church.

Liz: Yeah, we thought about that. The youth at our church that it would be a good activity for the club as a whole to do something where they can all help out with something that they are passionate about while at the same time sharing their faith.

Nick: Wow, that sounds cool man! So how can I help?

Liz: Well, you can start by maybe sharing about bible verses that helped you out when you were going through a tough time at school. A lot of kids are going through similar situations and it would be good for them to know that other people go through the same problems and are able to overcome it through the use of the word of God.

Nick: Dang man that’s super amazing. I’ll whip something up and send it to you. Talk to you soon man!Liz: Okay man. Thanks so much for helping us out!!
