POPE TALK | KAIROS GLOBAL | NOVEMBER 2026

Author: Dr Kochurani Joseph
Without forgiveness, we cannot live in peace: Christ has forgiven us to counter hatred, division and violence, and promote peace and love. Forgiveness spreads a healing love that can overcome all human hatred, resentment and division.
The cry of displaced children rises to God: Every child, every human being, possesses an infinite dignity. It is an invitation to recognise the dignity of each child, even before considering the condition of being a 'migrant', and to safeguard his or her fundamental rights: the right to life, education and a standard of living that enables full physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
The call to conversion applies to the Church herself: A call to the Church to recognise its faults is essential to spiritual growth. She must have the courage to begin with herself, calling for humility in confronting the Church’s deep wounds, infidelities and painful errors. Citing Saint Augustine, ‘Do not be content with what you are, if you want to become what you are not yet.’
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone: Jesus is the Son of God sent into the world, yet rejected by the very people who should have welcomed Him with open arms. The One who came to bring salvation is condemned; the One who wishes to give life is put to death. What was cast aside becomes the very foundation that sustains everything. In this way, God guides history and comes to our aid whenever we fall.
Progress is truly human if it makes the world better for everyone: Gaudium et Spes invites us to share ‘the bread of knowledge and know-how,’ so that humanity can develop its potential and, with the help of God, work together to build a better future. In post-Christian humanist thought, human beings and God are erroneously presented as rivals: in order to assert his knowledge, his freedom, and his progress, man is thought to have to emancipate himself from God. Such a denial, however, results in losing the possibility of affirming the transcendent value of the human person.
Human beings cooperate in God's plan: God has placed in the hands of men and women a creation that is still in statu viae – that is, on a journey, in the process of growth – so that they may bring it to fulfilment through their wise activity. Christians can justly consider that by their labour they are unfolding the Creator’s work, consulting the advantages of their brother men, and contributing by their personal industry to the realisation in history of the divine plan. Tying this idea to the mystery of the Incarnation, humanity is not absorbed or nullified by the encounter with God, but rather taken up in its entirety, continuing to be, in Christ, free and active.
The Lord’s call is to follow Him with determination: An encounter with Jesus Christ fills the heart with joy and gives us the strength to bear witness to His love and mercy. From this perspective, an important truth emerges: to encounter God, the human being must not abandon his earthly vocations, but can live his vocation fully, carrying out his daily work and sanctifying it. The Church today needs your joy, courage and witness so that many others may encounter Christ. So, allow yourselves to be transformed by his love and be promoters of forgiveness, reconciliation and peace.
