Peace is knowing that "God my Father", infinite in His wisdom, knows more than I ever can. Peace is acknowledging the unconditional love that "God the Son" had for me when He sacrificed Himself for me. Peace is accepting that "God the Spirit" is in control of my life and not me. And I experience this peace meeting my Lord daily in the few moments I spend in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

In my daily life, the Word of God constantly reminds me of His love and helps me stand up straight while going through life’s invariable highs and lows. When I feel troubled or in low spirits, the Holy Spirit gently reminds me of this verse, "I am with you and will watch over you" (Gen 28:15). And when I'm having a good time and enjoying myself, I think of the Holy Spirit, and I know that He is right beside me. Through good and bad times, I can experience peace because of God's promise, "Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:20)

Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. We, as children of God, are to carry the Holy Spirit and produce His fruits in our life. The world presents us with chaos and frustrations, but Jesus wants us to be peaceful and he always tells us – ‘Peace be with you’. After the crucifixion of Jesus, his disciples were frightened and locked themselves up in a room. Jesus came and stood among them and offered them peace. We know how these same disciples transformed the world by offering Jesus’ peace. In John 14:1 the Lord is telling us not to be afraid but to trust in Him. The risen Lord is present in the Eucharist and he offers us the same peace he gave to the disciples, moulding us troubled people into holy people.

Peace is something the whole world yearns for. We often talk about world peace and pray for the same, especially as we hear of the many things happening around us . But looking at our own life and being at peace with ourselves is what we are called to first – receiving the peace tha
t surpasses all understanding. There have been times when I get so busy doing the Lord’s work through music, that I sometimes feel that 24 hours is not enough for a day. But through it all, His Grace always carries me and my family along. Yes – there are many things that disturb me and get me complaining, but at the end of it all, it was invariably the same question that keeps coming back to me – "Who am I doing all this for?", and the answer is for none other than my dearest Christ Jesus. This knowledge brings a peace that is far beyond words.

We search for peace everywhere but find it nowhere. Without Christ we cannot find lasting peace because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and the temple of peace. As a teenager, leading a life relying solely on my abilities, I unsuccessfully searched for peace in a lot of places. However after having had an encounter with Christ during the retreat at JYIFT ‘08, I realized how important it is to be guided by the Holy Spirit. I now know that it is better to rely on the power of the One who created you than relying on yourself. “To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).
